Antique Edwardian White Cotton Skirt
Fine Cotton with Handworked Lace Hem | c. 1900–1910
A beautifully understated antique Edwardian white cotton skirt, originally created as an undergarment or petticoat and now wonderfully suited to contemporary wear.
Made from fine, lightweight white cotton, the skirt falls in soft, graceful gathers from the waistband into an easy, slightly A-line silhouette. The fabric has a lovely natural texture and translucency, giving the piece an airy, almost ethereal quality.
The understated body of the skirt is finished with a beautifully constructed lower panel, culminating in an exquisite scalloped lace border. The lace incorporates delicate openwork and floral-like motifs, providing just the right amount of ornamentation against the simplicity of the cotton.
The waistband is particularly charming, with a period button and button closure, along with the original construction details visible at the waist.
Originally intended to be worn beneath a dress, this antique textile has a wonderful second life as a modern skirt. Its simplicity makes it remarkably versatile—beautiful with a tucked-in blouse, cashmere sweater, simple tank, or oversized jacket.
