Victorian Elegant Black Ruffled Flounce Skirt with Velvet Trim and Satin Waist.
A wonderfully dramatic antique skirt with an extraordinary amount of texture, trim, and finely worked detail.
The skirt is fashioned in a lightweight black textile with a softly crinkled, almost gauze-like quality. Multiple bands of applied black velvet trim encircle the lower skirt, creating a beautifully architectural effect, while rows of delicate ruching and gathered detailing add dimension and movement. The lower portion is especially elaborate, with layers of narrow ribbon trim, gathered flounces, and irregularly cascading decorative elements.
The result is wonderfully theatrical without feeling overly formal—an extraordinary example of the way antique garments were often embellished entirely by hand.
The skirt has a narrow waistband and a long, sweeping silhouette. It would be beautiful worn today with a simple blouse, fitted sweater, or camisole, or incorporated into a contemporary wardrobe as a statement piece. It could also be appreciated simply as an antique textile.
Era: Circa Early 1900's
Condition: Antique and previously worn, with the expected signs of age. The textile is delicate yet has been properly cared for. Please examine all photographs carefully. Because of its age and delicate nature, this piece should be handled and worn with care.
Please note: Measurements are essential when considering an antique garment. Please review all measurements carefully and contact Frisson Maison before purchasing if you would like additional measurements or have questions about fit or condition.
This piece is absolutely gorgeous.
