Antique Edwardian Whitework Blouse with Lace Collar

$295.00

Belle Époque, circa 1900–1910

An exquisite antique Edwardian whitework blouse, fashioned from fine, lightweight white cotton and embellished throughout with delicate tonal embroidery and lace.

The softly gathered bodice is decorated with an enchanting arrangement of floral and botanical whitework, with delicate embroidered medallions and scrolling motifs flowing across the front. A narrow embroidered border follows the front opening, accompanied by tiny period buttons.

The back is equally beautiful, revealing a graceful arrangement of embroidered floral motifs beneath the softly gathered shoulders. A delicate lace-trimmed collar extends across the back of the neck and shoulders, adding an especially romantic touch.

The long sleeves are beautifully constructed, with gathered shoulders and cuffs featuring multiple bands of embroidery, drawn-thread work, and delicate lace edging. The layered treatment of the cuffs is particularly lovely and demonstrates the extraordinary attention to detail found in turn-of-the-century whitework.

The softly rounded hem and gathered construction give the blouse the relaxed yet feminine silhouette characteristic of early Edwardian dress.
